Jawai Safari Latest: Season Notes from the Trackers
Last updated: 22 September 2026. Season notes from our trackers and the booking desk: what the light and the leopards are doing, how the reservoir and the weather are behaving, which dates are filling, and anything that changes the plan. We update this page as the season turns rather than daily. For a live answer about a specific date, message the booking desk on WhatsApp.
This week at a glance
| Safari status | Open. All zones running, sunrise and sunset drives daily. Jawai has no seasonal closure. |
| Departures | Sunrise around 5:30 am (6:00 am from November), sunset around 5:00 pm (3:30 pm from November) from the Jawai pickup point. The tracker confirms exact times the evening before. |
| Sighting conditions | Post-monsoon. Grass is tall in the scrub, so the best sightings are on the open granite faces at dusk and on the rocks around the reservoir at first light. |
| Jawai Bandh | Full after the rains. Crocodiles are back on the rocks near the dam wall; the first winter birds arrive from early November. |
| Weather | Warm, humid days easing through the month; mornings are the comfortable slot. |
| Prices | ₹4,000 per private gypsy per drive, up to six guests. ₹5,500 on festival dates. Stay-and-safari packages from ₹7,499 per couple per night. |
| Availability | October weekends and Diwali week are filling. Weekdays in October still have room. |
Season notes
Late September 2026
- The monsoon is receding and the hills are at their greenest. The tall grass hides movement in the scrub, so trackers are working the open rock faces where leopards come out to warm up at dusk and lie up at dawn.
- Morning drives are the cooler, quieter option right now. Evening drives carry the better light for photography as the sky clears.
- The reservoir is at its fullest. Boat-free, but the shoreline drives are worth it for crocodiles and the first waders.
- Village tracks are firm again after the rains; off-road sections are open.
What to expect in October
- The grass drops back and sightings spread across all the zones, not only the rock faces.
- Days are dry and bright, nights turn pleasant. The classic Jawai season begins.
- The 2 to 4 October long weekend and Dussehra on 20 October are busy. Book those a few weeks ahead.
November
- Winter migrants reach Jawai Bandh from early November: cranes, storks and waterfowl join the resident eagles.
- Diwali week, 5 to 15 November, is a festival-pricing week. Safaris are ₹5,500 per gypsy and Economic and Standard package rates do not apply. Luxury and Ultra-Luxury stays are quoted on request for those dates.
- Mornings become cold enough for a jacket in the open gypsy.
December and the New Year
- Peak season. Crisp mornings, long golden evenings, and the best birdlife of the year on the water.
- Christmas to New Year, 20 December to 2 January, is festival pricing: a sunrise or sunset safari is ₹5,500 per gypsy and the sunrise-and-sunset combo ₹10,000. Book early; it is the first week of the season to sell out.
