Sena — where the safari actually happens
Sena is a small village at the centre of Jawai’s leopard country, surrounded by the granite hills and caves the big cats den in. Jawai Bandh — a dam and a railway station, not a safari point
The Jawai Bandh is the dam built across the Jawai River, and the reserve — the Jawai Bandh Leopard Conservation Reserve — takes its name from it. There is also a small railway station called Jawai Bandh, which is genuinely useful: it’s the nearest railhead to Sena. But don’t expect to step off the train into leopard country — the station is a quiet halt, and your safari still starts at Sena. Sumerpur — the market town nearby
Sumerpur is the closest proper town — banks, ATMs, markets, and a range of hotels. It’s a perfectly sensible place to stay or restock, and taxis to Sena are easy to arrange. Just know that booking a hotel “in Jawai” that turns out to be in Sumerpur town does not put you at the safari — you’ll still travel to Sena for your drive. Bera — the other safari cluster
Bera markets itself as the “leopard capital”, and it does have leopards — along with the biggest crowds and the most commercialised safari scene in the region. It sits on a different side of the reserve from Sena. Nothing against Bera — but if your booking is with us, heading to Bera puts you on the wrong side of the hills. - By road: roughly 160 km / 3 hours from Udaipur and 140 km / about 2.5 hours from Jodhpur — Jawai sits between the two, making it an easy stop on a Rajasthan circuit.
- Navigation: don’t type “Jawai” into Google Maps and hope — search “Jawai Safari Pick-up Point” (near bus stand, Sena, 306126) and you’ll arrive at the right gate, where every group is briefed before the drive.
